TERM 4
OUR MAGICAL CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLY - WEEK 6
We are so very proud of the amazing performance our children gave at our magical Christmas Assembly. The children should take great pride in their wonderful assembly. It was fantastic to see so many parents and family members in attendance. Thank you for all your support of your children learning their spoken parts and the songs and actions.
Week 1 - Excursion to Blackham
The Children thoroughly enjoyed their excursion to Blackham despite the heat. They went bushwalking to the mines where they got to have a look through the tunnels and spotted several kangaroos along the way.
They explored Blackham and had fun matching things in the environment to the nature cards. The children enjoyed playing Tug-o-war and then they had fun working in groups to build waterproof cubby houses. The children were so well behaved and Im sure they came home exhausted after a busy and fun day. Thanks to the wonderful parent volunteers who assisted us on our excursion.

Week 2
Bandana Day
The children enjoyed the chance to wear their Bandanas all week. All money raised will be donated to CANTEEN who help children with cancer.
Week 3 - Letter Writing
In written language, The children have been learning how to write and reply to letters. we put this skill in to practice and wrote letters to the year 1 students at trinity north. campus. this week we visited north to swap letters and then enjoyed getting to know our new friends over a picnic lunch. the children all thought this was pretty special.We will be inviting north students over to our campus soon to visit our classroom and show them around south.
Grandparents Day
One of the most special days of the school year for the children is Grandparents day. the children loved showing their grandparents around the school and proudly introducing them to their friends and teachers. it was so lovely to meet all of the amazing grandparents who travelled near or far. the smiles on everyone's faces said it all. It was such a special day.
Week 4- Remembrance Day
This week the children have been learning about the meaning of remembrance day. the children have had some very insightful questions about why we celebrate it and enjoyed discussing why it is such an important day. we made our own poppies to wear to the remembrance day service on Friday and as a junior school we made and planted large poppies out the front of the school.
Term 3
Week 1 -
Mathematics - Addition
This week in mathematics we are looking at our 'friends of 20'. this is a useful strategy in helping us solve addition problems. we are hoping The children will be able to instantly recall the different combinations to 20. they had fun playing FRIENDS OF 20 MEMORY TODAY.
Week 2
We try to have 20 minutes a day of Brain break/activity time. This allows the children to stretch their legs, get some fresh air and refocus ready for the next lesson. We took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and went up to the big kids playground in the Year 5/6 area. the children thought this was pretty exciting.
Week 3
Mathematics- Money
This week in Maths, we are looking at the different values of coins and notes. the children are naming the coins and notes and placing them in order from the smallest value to the largest value. we are matching money amounts, adding small money amounts and learning to give change. it was very interesting to hear the children's thoughts on why we need money and what would happen if we didn't have any money.
Week 4
Health - Life Education Van Visit
This week in Health we were lucky enough to have a visit from The life ed van. Harold the giraffe and bob taught us all about what it means to be a good friend. we went on a ride on the 'Friend ship' and explored different strategies we could use if someone is not being a kind friend. meeting Harold the giraffe was a definite highlight.
Maths - capacity
the children are thoroughly enjoying exploring measurement this week, with a focus on capacity. they have estimated, measured and compared different capacities of various sized containers. we have used sand and water to work this out.
Week 5
Maths - MASS
This week IN MATHS the children are exploring MASS. WE HAD FUN USING THE BALANCE SCALES TO FIND OBJECTS THAT ARE HEAVIER THAN, LIGHTER THAN, OR EQUAL IN MASS.
bookweek
Bookweek is always A favourite week among the students. We were very lucky to have published author and illustrator, Andrew joyner, read one of his stories to us and give us a drawing workshop.
Week 6
Book week parade
The highlight of book week was definitely the costume day parade. the children all looked amazing in their creative costumes and the smiles on their faces lasted all day long.
Week 7- fathers day stall
Last week was the fathers day stall. the children were all very excited to be able to choose a special gift for their dad. We also had fun making special Fathers day cards and doing some writing about what makes our dad so special. we hope all the dads and grandpas had a wonderful fathers day.
Week 8 - Vegetable Patch
.we are so lucky to have our own vegetable patch at school. Today we had fun picking the vegetables that were ready and sampling some of the veggies. We tried some spring onion, cauliflower, cabbage, beetroot, and some differnt ferbs. The children enjoying taste testing and loved that they could take some home to share.
tERM 2
Week 1
Hands On Maths- Measurement
This week in maths the children explored measuring length using informal units. They used paddlepop sticks, wooden Blocks and unifix cubes to measure the length of different objects. They particularly enjoyed using the unifix cubes to measure the length of their classmates. We then used this information to work out who was the tallest, smallest etc.
Literacy- word wheels
This week the children were looking at initial sounds and blends. They made their own 'word wheels' and had fun coming up with lots of different words using their word wheel.
Week 2
Science- chromatography
IN SCIENCE, THE CHILDREN CONDUCTED A CHROMATOGRAPHY EXPERIMENT. A spot of the mixture (ink, dye, food colouring etc) WAS placed near the bottom of a piece of chromatography paper and the paper WAS then placed upright in a suitable solvent, eg water. The Children loved watching the colours merge into each other and change.
Mothers day stall
The children were super excited to visit the Mothers Day stall and pick out the perfect pressie for you. it was very sweet to see the big smiles on their faces as they chose their special gift.
week 3
written language - procedure writing
This term the children are learning how to follow and write a procedure. First the class watched me make a buzzing bee, then they had a go at following a procedure to make their own buzzing bees. After they made their bees, the children wrote the steps in order of how they made their bees. they did a fantastic job at writing their first procedure. Once the writing was complete they loved testing out their buzzing bees to see how far they could fly.
spelling- word work
Each day the children complete different activities to practise and reinforce their weekly spelling sound.
On thursdays we use hands on activities to write our persinalised spelling lists. this week the three groups enjoyed the choice of using chalk, playdough stampers or magnetic letters to make their spelling words.
Week 4
Health & Positive Education
We have been focussing on what it means to be grateful. Each week we form a 'Gratitude circle' and go around the circle and say one thing that we are grateful for from the day. we decided to start writing some of these ideas down and add them to our gratitude tree which is displayed on the back wall of our classroom. the children have come up with so many things that they are grateful for.
During health lessons, we have discussed how we are all special and unique. We brainstormed lots of different reasons that make us special.
